On the eve, the family had candle light dinner. Substation at Bayu
Perdana in Klang broke down and all of Kampong Raja Uda was black out. Power
restored at 2130 hrs.
At the strikes of 12 fireworks were cracking away at the
nearby Pandamaran Sports Complex and the dogs were barking away.
ORBITUARY. |
01.01.2013 - not really a good start for some. Farid, Roslan
and yours truly went to Taman Bukit in Kajang to pay our last respect to our
Guthrie colleague; Christie F. Robert
aged 72 who succumbed to lung cancer in Singapore. Syed Mahadar, Nageeb Wahab,
Ng Chee Tee and Harchan Mohd Reza were earlier than us. We met Dorothy,
Christie’s wife and I conveyed condolences on behalf of Datin Zainab (wife of
late Dato Ismayuddin Manan) and Ted Pressler ex President of Guthrie GLI USA.
Christie F Robert was Kumpulan Guthrie Rubber Production
Controller and yours truly who was Head of Distribution was interacting with CFR
much too often where work as concern. His initial was CFR and I jokingly
interpreted as “Chief Flying Rabbit”. I or rather we always addressed him as
Chief, anyway. One of the few personalities remained from the typical British
Guthrie style of management, very professional, serious, meticulous, kept no vengeance
where work as concern. After working hours he was always a buddy and we used to
have jolly good time as Member of the Bar Council at the nearest Watering Hole.
(That was in the 80s & 90s). I remember when he headed the “Ship Shape” project;
we worked through lunch and finally lunch cum happy hours at 1600 hrs. It was
Sunday and we had deadline to meet.
CFR is a well known Rubber Technologist in Malaysia.
I lost another good Guthrie friend.
