Nur Hazeri, my son in law held a simple wedding function at La
Palmas, Palm Golf Resort at Senai on 13
August 2016 (Saturday). The Palm Golf Resort is situated close to Senai
Airport. The Wedding Dinner function was a very close affair, for family
members and close friends only. The function was simply adhering to normal
Malay wedding tradition, referred to as “adat
bertandang”. It is a function where
the bridegroom introduces his newlywed wife to his clansman (sedara mara) and friends.
The entourage from Port Klang made of my family of three (3), our
darling - Shasha, Sham, Elwin, Haji Termizi Adnan Omar and Hajah Hasnah Hamid.
Three (3) cars started at different time and we finally rendezvous at Le
Granduer Hotel. The waze application was however very useful as it was ages I
left Johor. I was in Johor from late 1974 to mid 1977.
The entourage from Port Klang resided at Le Granduer Hotel within the
Palm Golf Resort Complex. Four (4) rooms were reserved for us and one (1)
Bridal Suite, complimentary by the Hotel to the newlywed.
There was a slight confusion during checking in to the Hotel as
the Function Coordinator was missing. Two (2) rooms were not ready and the
Front Desk insisted for my credit card for the two (2) rooms available. I was
puzzled but kept my cool, decided to wait instead, for my son in law who was on
the way. Soon, the Front Desk came looking for me, apologized as the Function
Coordinator appeared and the misunderstanding was sorted out.
La Palmas is a Dining Hall of the Golf Resort Clubhouse and the
Hotel provided us with buggy service.
At the Dinner function, we were joined by my Johorean acquaintance
- Dato Malik Hussein, Datin Faridah, my niece Manina Salleh, her spouse, Haji
Ali, his friend and seven (7) of my daughter’s close friends.
The ceremony started sharp at 2000 hrs and our arrival was greeted
with a ceremonial welcoming by silat
performance. Sham was given the task as Bearer of the Bunga Peha.
The bersanding.
The doa selamat was
recited by the local Ustaz.
Close family members were invited for the adat merenjis and my wife and I was
given the honor to lead the ceremony followed by Dato Malik Hussein & Datin
Faridah henceforth, close family members of the bridegroom.
While dinner was
served, a display of tarian zapin was
performed. Dinner specialty on the menu was roasted lamb.
Cake cutting ceremony followed with photography session.
By 2300 hrs it was all over for my entourage and we all adjourned to the Hotel
nearby to rest for the night.
The following morning we all had breakfast at the Hotel Restaurant
and thereafter Haji Termizi with his wife and Sham with Elwin went separate
ways to do their errand respectively in Johor Baru.
The family left Senai at about noon after Shasha had a dip at the
Swimming Pool. The drive home was relaxing and the weather was fine all through.
Traffic heading north was moderate and it was a stress less driving. It was
just one break at Air Keroh PLUS R&R for late lunch. We did not really
enjoy the lunch as we were practically at war with the flies. Felt disappointed
with the unhygienic environment, I surely lodge a complaint with the PLUS COO
who happens to be my cousin.
The episode of Muzlifah’s wedding ceremony is now closed.
