The Marhaban Members & associates met at Ustaz Ali Termizi house on 04 October 2010 after Isyakh prayers. The Open house was to foster ukwah among the Members and invited guests for the celebration of Hari Raya.

The Chairman, Imam 2 Tuan Haji Khairuddin delivered his welcome speech and doa selamat for the night.

Kampong Raja Uda Marhaban group came out third throughout Selangor and for 2011 we aim to be the Champion. Insyaalah.

The motto of the group is to encourage anak kariah to be associate members and with their participation would encourage them to be close to the Mosque.

We have in mind to train young boys and youth so that marhaban would not just fade away. Marhaban – the meaning in Bahasa is “Welcome” and it is normally recited at several religious functions to welcome the guests and the invitees. It was first recited at Quba when the Holy Prophet (pbuh) arrived in Medina from Mekah during the hijrah. The Ansar clan in Medina recited the Marhaban to welcome the Holy Prophet (pbuh). Many youth of today think marhaban is just a song. The verses in marhaban have a lot of praise for the Holy Prophet (pbuh).

I knew marhaban since I was a small kid living in the kampong and it’s a norm on the eve of a wedding, the kampong folks would recite the marhaban until the cock crows. As the women folks were busy cooking for the wedding the men folks would kept them awake in the bangsal delivering the marhaban at the top of their voices. At time they were challenging each other who could deliver the best tones. It never happens in a modern society now and I really miss those eras.

I wish marhaban would live forever and if the citizens of today break the momentum, in no time marhaban would just disappear as part of the Malay tradition. Marhaban and Islam are interconnected. One needs to know jawi and master the Qur’an in order to deliver the right pronunciation. The tone of deliveries varies.

bangsal – temporary bamboo hut with rembia leaves roof and bamboo split floor. No one make bangsal anymore as they can rent tents.
