Upset??

Those reading my blog entry and get upset, it’s not my problem. I am posting history, the truth nothing but the truth. I merely express my opinion of the situation and what is taking place and took place. Down the road in twenty years time or earlier when I long gone, someone can look back, read my blog and knows exactly what was happening during my lifetime, my kampong, my Mosque, my journey, my family matters, the life and thoughts of Pakmus.

I have lived 64 years in this world and gone through the Bintang Tiga Parti Komunis of Malaya era, night curfew, rice rationing, a kampong Malay boy went to English school, Merdeka, the Kapal Layar, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia, Worked with the American, May 13, Tun Razak, Felda, Barisan Nasional, New Economic Policy, Worked with the British, Tabung Haji, Hussein Onn, Mahathir Mohamed, 2M Bersih Cekap Amanah, Amanah Saham Nasional, Amanah Saham Bumiputera, UMNO Haram, Dawn Raid, Worked under the Malays, Blue Eye episode, Twin Tower, Putrajaya, F1, Abdullah Badawi Islam Hadari, Hindraf and now Najib with his 1 Malaysia.

The Bintang Tiga of Malaya.

Chin Peng came to talk and failed.

Merdeka!!.

For fifty three years (53) UMNO is at the helm of the Government. The Malays have not benefitted? Some Malays said so. The Malays who are in PAS and PKR still think UMNO has not done any good for them. Who are they kidding or are they simply blind? The Malays are envy with some Malays become rich. When a Malay drive a Mercedes, ten (10) Malays would wonder where that Malay got the money from and he must be a political crony. When a Chinaman drives a Mercedes, ten (10) Chinaman would say that Chinaman is very clever. “Pandai punya China” (Smart Chinaman). How he got the money the other Chinaman doesn’t care. The Chinaman never envy nor question the source. Have the Malays ever wonder how the Chinaman can become rich? How many Malays would shop in a Malay shop? A typical example, a Chinaman shop in a Malay community would survive but a Malay shop in a Chinese community; no way can the Malay survive. Malay prefers to push the trolleys in Supermarkets than purchasing from a Malay shop with just 5 cents extra. Malays doesn’t mind being cheated by a Chinaman but not by Malays. Some Malays do go to a Malay shop but they use 555 script books and then absconded.

I dare not touch on who corrupt who because the answer is within you and me. In simple terminology, it is the Malays that make the Chinaman wealthy. I cannot deny the fact that not all Chinaman are wealthy, there are also poor Chinaman. If average Malays want to be rich, it is simple. Live by their means. Don’t change your curtains, dining table and sofa every Hari Raya. The Malays would spend like hell at every festive season and equip with new furnitures. They live beyond their means. Finally have quality children not quantity of children. Look at Chinaman houses. The houses are simple; they only need one round dining table cum mahjong table and one altar and that’s it.
If a Malay, presumably Islam, he or she knows what is haram and halal. Anything done in the world would be a question and aswer sessions with Allah on Judgement Day. The person concern has to answer for his or her own doings.

Education: In the 60s if you go to ten (10) Malay houses, you are fortunate to see one (1) house having their children photograph during graduation. Now if you go to ten (10) Malay houses, I bet eight (8) houses proudly showing their children graduated. Is it not enough what UMNO has done for the Malays? In my house I have two (2) photographs out of my two children. One was on MARA scholarship and the other on FAMA (Father and Mama). As Malay, I made my paradigm shift in 1973 when I got married. I choose quality not quantity. During my alma mater days, in 1963 way before the DEB when I was enrolled into Technical Institute Penang, out of 150 students, only 14 were Malays. Only 9%! One died during first year, remained only 13. Who were the 91%? Now, what is the intake? It is just the opposite. You still think UMNO has not done enough for the Malays??

The Government set up several Boarding schools and MRSM all over the country. For whom? Is it for Ah Chong and Muniandy? If Malay parents complained that their children cannot be enroll into such schools, don’t blame the Government, blame themselves for improper guidance to their children. My son went to MRSM but my daughter did not but she too graduated from a University.
In the 70s, 80s and till mid 90s, the Government was very generous on awarding scholarship for bright Malay students. They became Lawyers, Doctors, Accountants and Engineers. Those professinals are the same people who now turned against the Government and they call themselves Islam.

If you stand by the Newspaper Stand, how many Malays would buy Straits Times or Star for their children to read? Now we have Mathematics and Science in English. If we observe, Non Malays would buy Berita Harian or Mingguan Malaysia for their children to master the Bahasa Malaysia. Some of these Non Malays parents don’t even know how to talk proper Bahasa Malaysia. Malays would look down upon another Malay parent who converse with their children in English. That attitude and mentality Malays should eradicate because conversation is part of children education.

How many Malays have education insurance policy for their children? They just don’t care because they still depend on the Government. They think the DEB would last forever but yet they don’t support the Government. On the other hand, look at the Chinaman, even an ice cream Seller subscribe to education insurance policy for their children. They don’t depend on the Government. Now it is the same Malays who condemn UMNO policy and prefer for a change. Do they ever realize that in time to come the assistance to the Malays would be slowly eroding and abolish and at that time they don’t have the education insurance policy, then what?

UMNO started RIDA College in 1961 at Jalan Osman Petaling Jaya and then renamed to Institute Technology MARA and Mahathir upgraded to the status of University Institute Technology MARA, main campus in Shah Alam. Branches spread all over Malaysia so that Bumiputera students (majority Malays) can study and get better education. The intake to all Universities in Malaysia is 60% - 70% Malays. In the 60s, there was only one (1) University in Malaya and the intake was the other way round. UMNO still has not done anything for the Malays for the past 50 years? Something is definitely wrong with their IQ.

When I worked in Esso Malaysia an American gigantic conglomerate, the first Malay Engineer was recruited only after May 13. When I joined Guthrie Berhad in 1974, I was the only Malay Executive in the Technical line. The other Malay Executives were only in Human Resources Department. In 1990 I was proud to take over the position of the last British Manager in Kumpulan Guthrie. I could never dream of such post if there is no such thing as New Economic Policy or “Dasar Ekonomi Baru”. Tun Razak had good vision for the Malays, Tun Mahathir continued and improvised, only the Malays does not know how to appreciate or they are simply blind. Just imagine if there is no such thing as Felda. Who are Felda settlers? Poor Malays who were willing to toil in the fields were given land and houses. If there is no such thing as Felda, Kuala Lumpur would be similar to Jakarta. People seek shelters under cardboard houses. At the end of the day, the Government awarded the land to the Felda settlers and issue land grants.

I know how to appreciate because I went through the time tunnel. I went through the time when at night was curfew. My area was infested with Chinese communist’s terrorists. The kampong people were scared to go out to the Rubber Smallholdings because the Terrorists would ask for food. Sometimes for dinner I ate “lempeng tepong” because rice was rationed. I went to an English school without knowing a word of English. I bathe and shit by the river. My night was lighted by kerosene lamps. There was no such thing as pipe water and electricity. Drinking water was from the well and filtered with sand grains. When it rains I collect the rain water in big “tempayan” and I don’t have to bathe in the river. When it flood, all stood still, just watching the water to recede.

While you and me sleeping peacefully in the house, for once think back at how come we can enjoy the peace. The Government set up the Security Forces, the Police and the army to ensure our safety. Don’t ever forget the sacrifices of the Askar Melayu, SC, Askar Wataniah, Home Guard, Police, Police Hutan, Senoi Praqq and you name it. Many of the young today do not know what is SC and Home Guard. SC was Special Constable to assist the Police to look after New Villages and Home Guards were kampong people to guard the kampongs at night. These people looked after the country security at the very basic. The Askar Melayu was deployed into the jungles to hunt for the Communists headed by Chin Peng and assisted by Rashid Mydin. The British initiated the security systems and the Government continued.

The British formed the Askar Melayu and they still give recognition.

(The three things the Melayu still has is the Askar Melayu, Baju Melayu and Keretapi Tanah Melayu).

Children of today and those who were born after Merdeka, please ask around from the old folks. The Malays (UMNO) struggled to make what you are enjoying today. If you don’t appreciate the struggle, the very least is keep your mouth shut and don’t condemn. If you envy those who have attained richness, no matter how they attained them, let them answer to the Almighty Allah themselves. If you want to attain the same, work hard for it. As far as I am concern, how you get it, whether you are UMNO, PAS, PKR or DAP, what the hell, who cares!

Malaysia is unique. We are multi racial and multi religions and political parties’ base on racial and religion line. We still cannot accept ourselves as one, own race come first. We cannot deny that fact. On the road, the Chinaman would never give way to Malay and vice versa. I just came back from Indonesia, the traffic is chaotic but everybody give way to each other because they treat themselves as one, Indonesians, no Javanese, Chinese, Sundas, Batak, Mandelings or whatever. Though Bahasa Malaysia had been declared as the national language in Malaysia, the non Malays shun the National schools because they scared that their children would be converted to Islam. The value of Islam has been introduced into the National school from Standard One itself. During my time, only when I was in Upper Secondary I could wear long pants, and today…….still Islam. The pressure from certain political parties gave the government with no choice because in Malaysia, Islam is Malay and Malay is Islam. Failing to comply the Islamic values would be branded as Government of anti Islam. Whatever way, nothing seems to be right.

Today we can see and hear the Malays openly condemning the Malay Leaders of UMNO which give the passports for the Non Malays to do likewise or just waiting for opportunity. One party attacked on racial sentiment and the other on religious issues. So much so, the Leaders had to come out with 1 Malaysia concept. What does it mean? Equality for everybody? Are the Malays going to be happy? If you are Malay, don’t ask me because you are the one who initiate the Government to do so because you don’t give the Government the backing. For political mileage they don’t mind embracing the infidels which they once branded. They sleep on the same pillow but don’t share the aspirations for the country.

The time bomb can explode anytime lest don’t regret when it explode. Relax…….take a cup of coffee and think. Nobody can please everybody. Put yourself in Najib’s position, you still cannot solve the problem. Think of the peace that we are enjoying and ponder what’s happening at Gaza, Iraq and Afghanistan. Don’t be like Pak Malang, “Menang sabung kampong tergadai” (won the cockfight but lost the kampong).

I am no racists because I was educated among the Chinese and Indians in English schools. My Teachers and Lecturers except for Bahasa Melayu and Ugama, the rest were all Non Malays. I still remember the name of my first teacher in 1954, Mr. Tan Chin Guan. I never had a Malay School Principal. At Technical Institute I share the same dormitory with the Non Malays. Till today we often gather for lunch or dinner to foster the comradeship. At work I have to be associated with the Non Malays and my Bosses were mostly Non Malays. I mix with them in the Bar but don’t mean I had to take the drinks that they took. We have differences at Meeting Rooms and then socializing at Golf courses on the same playing fields.

If anybody not happy with what I wrote, who cares? You go and fly kite. I am writing out of my mind and experience.
