MU (Manek Urai).

This is one place in Peninsular Malaysia as far as I can recall, I have not been. 14 July 2009, election time in Manek Urai. It was held in midweek and local / outstation voters had to take leave to vote or travel all the way back to MU. The Menteri Besar declared a holiday. The election result was eagerly awaited by Malaysians. Can BN defeat the PAS candidate in the territory of Nik Aziz?

The outcome as follows:

PAS – 5348 votes.
BN – 5283 votes.
Spoilt votes – 117.
Majority – 65 votes only.

Another victory for Pakatan Rakyat.
(The spoilt votes were more than the majority).

PAS won by a slim and reduced majority. From 1300+ vote majority now a very steep declined to only 65. No big deal actually but what Mahathir said even 1 vote a winner is still a winner. BN promised a new bridge for Manek Urai, sadly they would not get it. I am indeed surprised of the decline majority knowing Kelantan is a PAS country. Where it went wrong?

My thought:

Those coming back to Manek Urai from Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Perak to vote did not give PAS a chance. They have witnessed and saw how arrogant these PAS people are at their locations. Overnight PAS took control of the Kampongs and the Mosques in general. In a PR control states except Kedah, PAS won due to DAP and Hindraf. In areas where the majority are UMNO supporters PAS behave they are the Taiko neglecting the sentiments of the Malay majority. In Selangor, the Mosque institution is heading towards a collision. Most perception is wait and see and time bomb in the making. That who voted for PR and wanted change is reverting. That’s exactly happening in Manek Urai, they went back to revert the systems.

PAS alone would receive a lot of supports from the Malays but PAS sleeping on the same bed with DAP and PKR do not favor most Malays. Analyze the political scenarios in Penang, Perak and Selangor one would understand what I am talking about. In Penang, PAS has no say. In Perak DAP is backing PAS who are the minority and in Selangor, PKR is calling the shot but there a lot of Opportunists in PAS. PAS can make the PR government in Selangor closed shop overnight. They team up with UMNO, Khalid Ibrahim would be the Opposition Leader.

Too much politicking in Malaysia. Malaysian politics and Politicians are not mature enough both from the ruling party as well as the opposition. One can get crazy.
