It was not Ghana day.

The second quarterfinal between Uruguay and Ghana saw astonished drama on the field. It was not Ghana day and Uruguay went through to the semifinal meeting the Dutch.

Muntari lead Ghana with a last minute shot at the end of the extra time during first half. At the last thirty (30) seconds of the first half. Ghana was one (1) up at extra time and Ghana was going to create history to be the first African nation to the World Cup semifinal.

At the 55th minute, Patsil made a blunder very near to the Ghana penalty box. Diego Forlan, another of Manchester United discard stepped in to take the free kick and the next moment Uruguay equalized. The score read 1 – 1.

The game went for extra thirty (30) minutes.

At the last minute of the last 15 minutes extra time of the game, the last of Ghana onslaught, Suares blocked a sure goal with his hands at the goal line where the Goalkeeper was totally defeated. Suares was red carded and Gyan took the penalty kick. He shot at the parallel bar instead of the goal. If that goal were to go in, Ghana would be in the semifinal.

The game had to be decided on penalty kicks.

The Uruguayan Goalkeeper read the game well. He could read where the shots were going to be and John Mensah and Dominic Adiyah penalty shots were easily blocked. Uruguay won the penalty kick at 4 – 2.
Patsil, Gyan, Mensah and Adiyah indirectly contributed to Ghana flying home early and failed to create history. The whole of Africa was behind them.

I am of the opinion that if a sure goal being mishandled by a non Goalkeeper at the goal line, a goal should be awarded instead of a penalty. FIFA should think about it.
